Q. How much does Boy Scout registration cost?
A. Dues, Registration and Boy's Life magazine costs $97 per year ($70 Dues in 2011, $15 registration and $12 Boy's Life). If the scout is crossing over from Webelos (i.e. Cub Scouts) he only pays a $1 transfer fee plus prorated dues until the next registration date. Registered adults pay only $15. Registration is due to the Troop in January.
Q. When and where does Troop 84 meet?
A. The Troop meets every Tuesday throughout the year with only a few exceptions. The Troop does not meet on the Tuesday between Christmas and New Years and the Tuesday during and following Many Point Scout Camp in the summer. Troop meetings start at 7:00pm and end about 8:30pm and are held at Maple Grove Lutheran Church on the SW corner of County Rd. 30 and Elm Creek Blvd.
Q. Does my Scout need to attend every meeting?
A. No, but it is a good idea to check the website weekly or to stop by the troop meeting to pick up any new or updated information.
Q. Where can I purchase my son's Scout uniform?
A. Uniforms can be purchased at the Scout shops in Golden Valley, Mounds View or on-line at www.scoutstuff.org.
Q. Does my Scout need to wear his uniform to all scout events?
A. Yes, all official scouting events require the Scout to wear their Field uniform. During the summer (i.e. between Memorial Day and Labor Day), Scouts can wear their ACTIVITY uniform to Troop meetings.
Q. What are FIELD and ACTIVITY uniforms?
A. FIELD uniforms include the official khaki Scout shirt (either short or long-sleeves are fine), neckerchief and slider. ACTIVITY uniforms are the official Troop 84 red t-shirt with logo, other Scout related shirt.
Q. Where can Troop 84 t-shirts, neckerchiefs and sweatshirts be purchased?
A. All of the items listed above can be conveniently purchased at the weekly Troop meetings.
Q. What is Many Point?
A. Many Point refers to Many Point Scout Camp, a week long camp run by the Northern Star Council near Park Rapids, Minnesota. Many Point allows Scouts to have opportunities to participate in many fun activities such as sailing, swimming, hiking and camping that can be used in completing merit badge requirements or working towards rank advancement.
Q. How can I help out?
A. There are always lots of volunteer opportunities in Troop 84. Adults are always welcome at and encouraged to attend all campouts. Merit badge counselors are also needed to teach merit badges at the weekly Troop meetings. Adults can also help with service projects by driving scouts to the various locations and helping with the actual service project such as Scouting For Food or road clean-up. Troop 84 has adopted the stretch of Fernbrook Avenue between County Road 30 and Highway 81. At least twice a year our Troop walks this stretch of road picking up trash.
